osteotomy

Each human is different. The same is true for the leg alignment. In some cases, malalignment can become a problem and cause further issues. If problems occur, there are two possibilities to correct the leg alignment.

In a child, a so-called epiphysiodesis is an option. In this procedure, the growth plate is temporarily “blocked“, either on one side of the bone, or on both sides.

In an adult, the correction involves a controlled bony cut, an osteotomy. The bony cut allows an open- or a closed wedge correction. It can be done on both the femur and the tibia, or even on both bones. The amount of correction is carefully preplanned and intraoperatively fixed in the targeted alignment.

The proper indication is critical for success. Dr. Klasan is one of the rare surgeons that offers the complete spectrum of osteotomy.
