During my medical studies in Zagreb, I got fascinated with orthopaedics. Simply put, we were a good fit — I was always very active in various sports and had an interest in injuries occurring in sports.

After my studies in 2011, I wanted to expand my personal and professional horizons and decided to go to Germany for orthopaedic training. I completed my training in teaching hospitals at the University of Freiburg and the University Hospital Marburg.

I always had an interest for scientific research and finished my doctorate in 2015 at the University of Freiburg. In the last years of my training, after coming to Marburg, it became clear to me that I wanted to proceed with clinical and scientific development in knee surgery.

After becoming a specialist in orthopaedic surgery in Germany, I wanted to develop my operative and scientific skills further, focusing primarily on the knee joint. For this reason, I did a 1-year Knee Fellowship in Sydney, Australia. I worked at the Royal North Shore Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. This was a fantastic experience that motivated me even further to become a knee surgeon. After Sydney, I did my second Fellowship in New Zealand. For 14 months, I worked at the North Shore Hospital in Auckland. I worked with fantastic surgeons, operated a lot on my own, and honed my skills even further.

While I was overseas, I performed almost 1000 procedures, mostly around the knee.

My experience allows me to offer the full spectrum of knee surgery, from soft tissue injuries and fractures, all the way to replacement procedures – always prioritising preservation or even transplantation, if possible – before replacement.

I was lucky to work with the newest techniques and technologies overseas and develop them even further, both clinically and scientifically. The use of Robotics, individualised treatment, and minimal-invasive procedures all have tremendous potential for improving outcomes. The use of these techniques and technologies is the topic of my Habilitation thesis, at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz. Between September 2020 and March 2022, I work as a Senior Medical Officer at the Kepler University Hospital as Head of Robotics, Knee, and Digitalisation. In May 2022, I moved to Graz and where I responsible for the knee division at the AUVA Hospitals in Graz and Kalwang. I am a proud Team physician of Graz Giants.

As an author and co-author of over 80 publications and editor in 2 internationally renowned orthopaedic journals, I am always keeping up with the latest scientific discoveries.

When I am not on the move with my two girls, my wife Nina and dog Frida, I cook, read or do one of my sports.
