PATELLA DISLOCATION

Patellofemoral instability can lead to patella dislocation. There are several causes. One cause is a traumatic rupture of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL).

Much rarer causes are rotational errors of the leg or trochlear dysplasia. The therapy is tailored according to the cause of the instability and uses the most minimally invasive method for treatment.

In a number of cases, physiotherapy will be sufficient.

The most common procedure is a reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL-reconstruction). Much less common but sometimes necessary is a derotational osteotomy or a trochleoplasty

Dr. Klasan performs all surgeries and can tailor the plan to treat the underlying problem with minimal possible invasiveness.
